Dr. Sabine O’Hara is the Managing Director and Vice President of Professors Beyond Borders and Principal of Global Ecology, LLC. A respected author, researcher and higher education executive, she is well known for her expertise in sustainable economic development, global education and executive leadership. She has lectured around the globe, is the author of three books and numerous articles and research reports and has taught courses and professional development workshops on topics like: sustainability and education; preparing for success in a global economy; linking teaching and research through community based economic development; solving complex problems through collaborative research; and cultural perspectives on valuation and stakeholder processes.
Dr. O’Hara was the Executive Director of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) and Vice President of the Institute of International Education (IIE). Before joining CIES/IIE, was the 10th President of Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia and held faculty and administrative leadership positions at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University.
A native of Germany, O’Hara completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Gottingen, where she also earned a doctorate in environmental economics. She serves on the board of directors of several national and international organizations, including as president of the United States Society for Ecological Economics, as secretary of the Council of Scientific Society Presidents, and as editorial board member of several academic journals.
